YORK THEATRE ACCESS

FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED LIMITED MOBILITY ACCESS

If you have limited mobility please notify Box Office staff when booking. They will inform you of your options. A side door for Rows A – F is available on request. There are a few stairs involved, but the Front of House will assist you to your seat. Alternatively the administration lift is also available when Rows A – F have been filled, although there are six stairs to be negotiated on this route. When you arrive, Front of House staff will do their best to provide you with the easiest available pathway to your seats.

FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED WHEELCHAIR ACCESS

For Patrons who use a wheelchair attending shows in the York, please arrive at least half an hour before your show starts. Once you have made yourself known to Box office, the Front of House Manager will escort you around the building to the administration lift. You will be taken up in the lift to Level 3 Admin and escorted through the office to the rear of the theatre. There are six stairs that require the use of a machine called a Chairmate. The Chairmate ascends the stairs in a rear position so it will be necessary for you to mount the machine in reverse. The operator will assist in positioning your chair on the Chairmate and take you up the six stairs.

The Chairmate is a lifter that tilts back to facilitate climbing. It levels out during the ascent and then tilts back at the end of the stairs. Once you have ascended the six stairs the Operator will help you disembark and take you to your appropriate door number for seating. Because there are a number of doors to pass through and the six stairs to negotiate, please allow at least 10 minutes for this process. A half hour before show starts will give you ample time. At the end of the show the route is the same but in reverse.

The Chairmate is rated to 200kg combined weight of chair and patron. If you think that your combined weight will exceed the stair climbers rating please contact the Front of House Manager to work out a solution for access.
